The Red barn Coup

The Red Barn Coup was our first coup we built on the homestead. It was for our flock of 20 hens that we had coming in September of 2021.  This was also our first ever flock of chickens.  This coup is 8x8 it has a white metal roof, A slider window that has metal mesh over the window for safety when window is open and has a reclaimed plywood floor.  All the trim is just white paint that looks like white trim. We made a custom door. We choose traditional red and green for the colors for the coup as in researching barn colors of the farms of the past, red and green where the traditional colors used. The inside of the coop is green with a repurposed nesting box in red. This coup has a 21ft x 8ft run. We came up with that size by just wanting to stay on budget and buying (1) 50 ft roll of green poultry fencing. Re just recently moved the coup to its permeant location by the pond. All of our girls free Range. This Coup house's 8 hens. Blanche, Aretha, Shirley, Lucy, Pixie, Goldie, Rose, & Snow. We have Lost 5 of our Hens over the two Years and the other six are in the Blue Cottage Duplex coup due to severe pecking.  All is good and stable now!! Cost for this coup was approximately $500.00 for all materials needed. We still want to Build a covered run but for now it works perfectly. This coup was a dream come true for me on the homestead.
