Country Cottage Duplex Coop
The Blue Country Cottage Duplex Coop was built to house our hens that were being severely picked on in the Red Barn Coop. It started out with three hens. Phyllis a grey frizzle easter egger was the bottom of the pecking order and everyone except my black frizzle bantam cochin (Itsy Bitsy no one picked on her ever) pecked at her constantly. So, we were moving her and Itsy Bitsy to the County Cottage Coop. We also decide to bring in Lacey. These girls were wounded pretty bad. I moved them in to this coop nursed them back to health. I was certain that the pecking would be stopped, and the rest of the hens would settle down. All these hens were raised from done day old, 20 of them together. It was a shock when this started to happen. Unfortunately, it did not stop, and I realized that there were others that were going to need to come out of the coup. We then decided to build on the other extension on to the coop. We would add Dorothy and Trixy to the with Phyllis, Itsy and Lacey. And on the other side we had Pidge, Dixy, and Carmen. We have since lost Dorothy, Carmen and Itsy Bitsy in this coop. We have moved Trixy in with Dixy and Pidge and Brought Sofia in with Phyllis and Lacey. Sofia was the bottom of the Pecking order in the red barn coop. She is a Blue Splash Cochin. She was always by herself. It made me quite sad. So, one day I went and got her at night and placed her in with Phyllis and Lacey. There was a little bit of pecking but within a week she was accepted, and they are her besties. Both sides of the County Cottage Coop hang together as a flock. They just go to their own sides after free ranging for sleeping. When I see Sofia with them it makes me smile on a daily basis. We have had some loss over in the red barn coop also. But everyone there is part of the flock, and they all get along. This coop was built with tree logs as the base and left over construction material from our cabin build. We only Purchased the window, the hinges, the light, the decor, and the fencing materials. This coop cost is $175.00. It is 4x4x5. the addition is 3x3x4. The run on the larger side is 25x8 and the shorter side is 15x5.
